The Foundation

What does the Sounds True Foundation do?

The Sounds True Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing access to the tools of mindfulness and emotional awareness to empower social leaders and communities in need, including survivors of violence, at-risk youth, prisoners, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and those in developing countries.

Our three main areas of focus include:

1. Training Mindful Champions: We fund scholarships for social leaders to become certified mindfulness teachers from areas such as social justice, education, hospice care, and environmental activism.

2. Meaningful Partnerships: We partner with nonprofit organizations to help make the healing benefits of mindfulness and emotional awareness accessible to communities in need.

3. Online Course Scholarships: We create access to Sounds True’s online courses by providing scholarships for those experiencing financial hardship.

We are committed to growing a community that’s dedicated to a more loving world. That’s why we host a three-day gathering once a year to connect with each other and some of the most beloved spiritual teachers of our time.

We also share stories of individual and social transformation where we showcase people bringing mindfulness, compassion, and spiritual awakening into all aspects of society.

How does the Foundation fund its work?

Sounds True, Inc. covers most of the operating expenses of the Foundation. However, we rely heavily on the generosity of our community and private donors to be able to bring our work into the world.

Sounds True, Inc. also contributes significant pro bono services to the Foundation to ensure most of your donation goes directly to transforming people’s lives.

Is the Foundation part of Sounds True?

We are aligned in purpose, but we are separate organizations. The Sounds True Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization while Sounds True is a for-profit incorporated company.

The two organizations work closely to help make transformational education widely available to social leaders and communities in need.

Why and how was the Sounds True Foundation started?

Tami Simon started Sounds True, Inc. in 1985 with a single mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom.

Over the following 30 years, Tami noticed that many people weren’t able to access the Sounds True programs because of social, physical, and economic barriers.

In January 2019, Tami Simon publicly launched the Sounds True Foundation with a mission to create access to transformational education to social leaders and communities in need.

Tami’s personal desire to see more people access transformational education has now turned into a foundation with three key areas of focus:

Donations

What does my donation do?

We spend most of your money on providing transformational education in the form of books, courses, scholarships, and training for social leaders and communities in need.

To make this happen, here are some of areas we need to fund to fulfill our mission:

• Material costs
For all of our transformational programs, we need to cover all the costs of production, including program development, design, copywriting, video editing, mentorship fees, and customer service.

• Partnership development
We work with a wide range of partners across many sectors. We have staff who are paid to reach out, develop, and maintain these relationships.

• Personnel costs
People manage our projects, so our costs include salaries and benefits for staff, including technical experts like videographers, audio engineers, and production coordinators.
